Anderson County Hospital discusses county-wide wellness initiative

Anderson County Hospital discusses county-wide wellness initiative Anderson County Hospital and residents throughout the county are working together to explore how Anderson County can become healthier.

John Leifer, Chief Marketing and Innovation Officer for Saint Luke’s Health System, and Dee Edington, Ph.D., director of the Health Management Research Center at the University of Michigan , spoke to a group of community members recently and shared ideas and strategies to help Anderson County achieve its goal of becoming the healthiest county in Kansas . The wellness initiative aims to reduce the progression of chronic disease in Anderson County as well as increase the level of activity and overall wellness of its residents.

While the committee is in the early stages of planning, a variety of strategies and tactics are coming together to encourage wellness and exercise throughout the county. The program will target people of all ages, providing opportunities for residents to live a healthier lifestyle, and will utilize area resources such as walking trails and county recreational facilities.

“We have an exciting opportunity to come together as a county and work toward a common goal,” said Karen Wood, project leader. “Simply taking a few minutes to walk every day can have a huge impact on an individual’s health,” said Wood.

Trail to replace Anderson County Sheriff goes through local Democratic Party

The coming resignation of Anderson County Sheriff Scot Brownrigg, who is going to leave to take at new position with the Kansas Law Enforcement Training Center in Hutchinson, leaves the question of “what comes next?”

An inquiry to the Anderson County Clerk brought this explanation of what happens next. The process is as follows: The County Democratic Party will receive applications and interview interested candidates for the position. That is to take place within 21 days of notification (which is happening this week).

They will choose from those applications, then forward that pick to Governor Brownback for selection and final appointment.
Hopefully, that happens within a time frame that will leave the department under direction. One quirk in the ointment here is that Undersheriff Laiter is on duty with the military overseas until next year. Current sheriff Brownrigg will be here for awhile, so there is time.
